Catch the Shuttlebus ( 300 ) socalled "Zuidtangent", it's a black-red coloured bus and leaves every 7 minutes from Schiphol Airport and 45 minutes later you can experience the heartiness and hospitality of Haarlem. Yield happily to the temptations of the city and feel the catching beat of the heart of the province in historical courts, worldfamous museums and luxurious shopping-centres. The city not only enjoys the good reputation as
"Haarlem". Holland Flower City of Europe, it's also the Hiding Place of corrie ten Boom. One of the heroines of the

Go windsurfing for example or be there when
Haarlem will cheer you up! A city does not become a 'Flowercity' overnight. It takes more than just plants in the windows or daffodils in the garden. Haarlem is very proud of its cheerful nickname and shows its colors whenever it can. The Flowergirls are the sparkling example. For forty years now this promotion team, consisting of twelve Haarlem beauties, conjures not only a smile on the visitor's face, but also a daffodil on his label. A small gift to welcome guests in our
blooming city of flowers. The Flowergirls also brighten up meetings such as product
presentations, receptions and congresses. Flowers in abundance. That goes for the annual
flower parade too. An explosion of colors, transforming the city into an exuberant sea of
flowers. Beautiful floats passing in a multicolored procession from Noordwijk to the
provincial capital. The parade ends on the Gedempte Oude Gracht and the floats will stay
there for a whole weekend, so you can come and admire them. This parade is really worth spending some free hours on. It will take place on Saturday April 23 and Sunday April 24 2005. Lots of other activities add luster to this happy spring feast, in which Haarlem indulges every year. Throughout the whole year Haarlem will be showing its natural beauty. Outside the city the scenery is splendid too.
Go out into the open and get enchanted by the recreation area of Spaarnwoude. This is where exertion and relaxation go hand in hand. For example on the golf course. Or you can get into a canoe and look at the beautiful scenery from another point of view. Do you prefer a bike? The choice is all yours. Cycle routes of all kinds and lengths will take you through the fascinating surroundings. If Haarlem were a flower, then the surroundings of Spaarnestad would be the luxuriant garden in which it grows. The dunes, polders and the woods of this green and hospitable neighbour go together very well with the City of Flowers. Ready to be picked. Kennemerland will really cheer you up!

Right behind the
glorified dunes, Kennemerland basks itself in the languid morning-sun. Slow beams softly
awaken nature and remind the inhabitants of their daily duties. A proud weather-cock
reflects its golden crowing across the awakening street; two early cyclists dodge a tired
tomcat on its way home. The surroundings of Haarlem and Zandvoort are somewhat like a
holiday novel. A captivating book, taking the reader's breath away. 
Just outside the city for miles on the end sandy beaches, vast
dunes and green recreation areas display their natural charms. Those who allow themselves
less time for an explorative expedition of the town will find different things to suit
their tastes. 
Hansje Brinkers
prevents an inundation by putting his finger into the dyke. Or else, see how
'asphalt-pilots' zoom by on the motorrace-track of Zandvoort. Just throw a few chips on
the roulette table and wait anxiously ( free entrance tickets available at hotel). A
big-time hit? Who knows.
By the way, if you happen to visit
us somewhat earlier in the season, turn along the many-coloured merry-go-round of the
bulbfields. For south Kennemerland is teeming with activity. Small wonder that the region
is widely praised for its varied character. Holland at its most delightful. Faites vos
